Welcome to the 2012 season of Minimoto racing. We have a few changes that we wish to make every current, past and new members aware of.

Abbreviations;

MoMS – Manual of Motorcycle Sport, MV – Motorcycling Victoria, MA – Motorcycling Australia, WKC – Warrnambool Kart Club

Due to declining funds and member participation in practice and race days, the fees will need to be increased to try and meet the running costs associated with running these days for you.

Below is the current running costs explained;

$11 rider levy per rider regardless of either being junior or senior paid to MV.

$400 per day for Track hire from Warrnambool Kart Club.

$150 for race day permit or $110 for practice day permit from MV.

$60 approximately in diesel to run the generator.

When charging $15 for Juniors and $25 for seniors this leaves the club with $4 per junior and $14 per senior after the rider levy has been paid to meet costs. When we have only 5 juniors and 10 seniors turn up to participate, you can see this leaves the club very short in covering costs.

The rider fees will be increasing to $30 for Juniors and $50 for Seniors, hopefully with this increase and a small rise in member participation the club can start covering costs associated with putting on a day for its members. Without this increase, we would only be able sustain the losses for a further 2 meets before running out money.

To combat at price rise from the WKC for the track hire we have agreed to participate more in the keeping of the track grounds. This includes alternating of cutting and slashing of the grass and participation in the working bees as scheduled by the WKC. The dates of these will be forwarded to everyone shortly and all help from members or families would be of great benefit.

The next item is Licensing. The States Championship event was a great success for our discipline in motorcycle sport in the eyes of both MV and MA. As we have shown that we are serious when it comes to safety and correctly running events as set out in the MoMS, it is now expected that we run our club race days, practice sessions, and coaching days, under the correct permits with appropriately licensed officials and volunteers. This means that every Flag Marshall, Time keeper, Starter, Pit lane Marshall must hold a minimum of a Level 1 officials licence. But don’t worry, obtaining this is easy. It’s a short 25 multiple choice test that can be done in your own time with a copy of the MoMS to help you with your answers, plus its free! Then you, riders and the club are insured if anything was to happen. Please also remember that without volunteers and officials we are not able to hold a practice, coaching or race day, so if you, mum or dad are able to help, Please contact me on 0403 674 480 or barnes.d@me.com an I can get you the forms. They can also be downloaded from the MV website under the Officials tab or click on this link http://www.motorcyclingvic.com.au/index.php?id=359

Junior licence holders must fill out and complete the JCP log book with a minimum of 5 hours coaching per year. Day licences will no longer be available to unlicensed juniors for race days until you have completed the Kick Start program and had it all approved by a coach. The kick start program is designed to give juniors confidence and skills to make them a competent rider before being in a racing situation.

Senior first time licence holders, will need to complete the Getting Started in Motocycle Sport book and do an observation ride and be signed off by an accredited coach. If you are planning on attending the National Championships in Gladstone, you will need a Junior or Senior Restricted licence as a minimum to enter and compete, as there will not be day or event licences available.

As you can see there is a need for coaching days and an accredited coach, we have a coach who is ready to help out with our club, but only when he himself is not racing. So if anyone is interested in becoming a coach please contact Brendan or myself and we can arrange for you attend the appropriate course to become licensed. There is a small cost associated with this as you are able to charge for your coaching services.

The next change will be the club championship. We will be bringing it more in line with our larger road racing friends and be running a 5 round series with all races to be held at the Warrnambool Kart track, with a view to having round 4 or 5 changed to a Melbourne track if we are able to secure track hire, permit and licensing through MV.

WKC have recently noticed that there have been marks left on the track from our bikes crashing. Part of the new agreement with WKC that all bar ends, axles and foot pegs must have sliders so when they hit the bitumen they don’t dig in and gouge the track. We will also be conducting a full scrutineering check of your bike and riding gear before going on track.

Pre-Entry will also be available for all Club Championship race days and practice days. Entry forms and disclaimers will be available on the website http://minimoto.org.au in the downloads page. This will help to streamline sign in on race days, help with organising the race schedule and alleviate the need to pay in cash and help to judge numbers for catering purposes.

2012 Calendar

The 2011 Vic State titles were a great sucess with riders form Perth, Brisbane and Melbourne making the trip down to Warrnambool. The Weather played its part in providing perfect racing conditions across the 3 days which allowed some close battles that were sorted out in the last centimetres before the chequered flag. The weekend also saw a number of spills on some fast corners but all are okay. In both Junior and Senior Motard and Senior Elite , the Current National Champions managed to keep thier Titles in tact and also pick up the State Title.
There were a number of Media personnell that Turned up to take an array of photo’s which are available on facebook, The Standard newspaper and Karen Giblin websites.
The 26 year old took the holeshot from pole position and never looked back as the rest of the field battled for positions.

With a strong breeze blowing and darkening skies, the MotoGP race commenced with a rearranged grid following the withdraw of both Yamaha Factory riders and Héctor Barberá’s replacement rider, Damian Cudlin on the Mapfre Aspar team. Jorge Lorenzo withdrew after a high side in the morning warm up left him with a severely injured finger that will require surgery, while Ben Spies is still mildly concussed after a crash in qualifying on Saturday. Cudlin withdrew due to injuries from a crash in Saturday morning practice.

Nicky Hayden (Ducati Team) and Marco Simoncelli (San Carlo Honda Gresini Team) followed Stoner into turn one, with the Italian making an early move on Hayden to take second. Simoncelli then spent the remainder of the race tussling with Andrea Dovizioso (Repsol Honda), beating his compatriot across the line for his best MotoGP finish of second.

Dani Pedrosa was ten seconds adrift of team mate Dovizioso to finish fourth, giving Honda a 1-4 finish, while Colin Edwards (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) inherited fifth place after first Valentino Rossi (Ducati Team) and then Álvaro Bautista (Rizla Suzuki) crashed out of that position. Rossi fell after making a pass on the Bautista, ending his 13 year string of podium finishes at the Australian circuit, while the Suzuki man slipped toward the end of the race as rain began to fall.

The white flag had been shown on lap ten as scattered rain drops appeared, giving riders the option to swap bikes, though the rain didn’t start in earnest until nearly the end, when it claimed not only Bautista but then Cal Crutchlow (Monster Yamaha Tech 3) and Hiroshi Aoyama (San Carlo Honda Gresini).

Hayden was the first to enter the pits to change bikes, followed by Loris Capirossi (Pramac Racing), though it did not help their finishing positions as Hayden ended the race seventh behind Randy de Puniet (Pramac Racing) despite the Frenchman having had an earlier offtrack excursion, while Capirossi finished ninth behind Toni Elías (LCR Honda).

The final race finisher was Karel Abraham (Cardion AB Motoracing), who crossed the line tenth.

On September 4th SWMMC clubs’ first Novelty Race day was a great success with plenty of fun had by everyone.
The Day started with a ‘Super Pole’ session with everyone getting the whole track to themselves for a 1 lap showdown to see who could set the fastest lap. The juniors was taken out by Grant Wilkinson riding a motard with a time of 0:50.6 and senoirs by Dave Barnes riding a motard with a time of 0:41.7. All times and results can be found here on the results page.

After lunch the racing began with a a 5 laps race between laps 1 and 4 a rider must make a pitstop and remove helmet, gloves and boots, place them on the table and them put them all back on before continuing with the race. This Pitstop caused some top riders to falter when removing items and having to restart their bike. Dean Schneider showed everyone how it was done, he had all items removed before most even had their helmets removed, needless to say he went on to convincing win.

Race 2 also required a pitstop, but instead of removing clothing, an old card game of ‘matches’ was presented to the rider, requiring them to find a pair of cards, only selecting 2 at a time and failure to replace cards resulted in a 15 second time penalty. The trick was to slide the cards around rather than trying to pick them up while wearing gloves.

The final race of the day was a 10 Lap all in Handicapped race with start times taken from the ‘Super Pole’ lap but in reverse direction. The juniors race saw Grant Wilkinson Race through the field to claim a convincing win. The seniors Race was won by Tony Vella who didn’t have the greatest results in the novelty races through doing to many laps, showed everyone how to pass on the inside and outside of corners and take a convincing win.
